
Privacy and community:
Designing to accomodate the complex needs of residents, including clear and numerous circulation options for avoidance relationships and encouraging communal activity to make short term residents feel at home in an unfamiliar place was paramount to a successful and respectful proposal.
The proposal attempts to find balance between design for safety and comfort while maintaining a clear philosophy for integration into the landscape and to promote adoption by residents and community. PLANT FIRST, BUILD SECOND learns and borrows climatic strategies from native flora to allow minimal built intervention to the site. The built modules are installed once the site is planted and developed, existing as a small part of a larger ecosystem - prioritising the land and nature that has, and will continue to, support life in Australia for centuries.
