For this project I was inspired by a story told by the client for Peter Stutchbury's Swirling Water House. Beautiful old curtains were repurposed as wardrobe door coverings to bring some of the old into the new. Faced with a set of full length mirrors, I wanted to soften the experience of seeing myself no matter where I was in my bedroom. Over several months, I bought material offcuts from scrap bins and designed a patchwork pattern using available natural materials (cotton, linen, silk and denim). I then cut and sowed these pieces to fit the sliding mirrors, incorporating timber dowels and lacing on the back to maintain tension consistently throughout the varied materials.
